Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made a brief visit to the United Arab Emirates, during which he met with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.
The Egyptian presidency said in a statement quoted by the official spokesman, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Shenawy, that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was at the forefront of the future of President Sisi upon his arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport, in the presence of Egypt's ambassador to the UAE and a number of embassy members.
The statement added that the two leaders held a bilateral meeting on a working lunch, during which Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed welcomed the visit, praising what he described as "distinguished brotherly relations" between the two countries, while President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and the depth of historical ties between the two peoples.
The statement stressed that the Egyptian president stressed his country's solidarity with the UAE in the current regional situation, and Cairo's rejection of any attacks on the sovereignty of the Gulf state, saying that "what affects the UAE affects Egypt."
The statement also quoted Sisi as describing these attacks as a “flagrant violation of the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” warning that they constitute an escalation that threatens the stability of the region, calling for intensifying diplomatic efforts to settle crises through dialogue.
For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for Egypt's positions and his keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Cairo in various files, according to the statement.
According to the Presidency of the Republic, the talks also dealt with ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the economic, trade and investment fields, as well as discussing the developments of regional crises. At the end of the visit, the President of the UAE accompanied the Egyptian President to Abu Dhabi International Airport to bid him farewell.
