The Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan in Asmara confirmed that the service of Sudanese citizens and the protection of their rights and dignity is one of its top priorities, announcing the adoption of organizational measures that contributed to simplifying procedures and speeding up the completion of consular transactions that meet their requirements within a period not exceeding ten minutes, according to the nature of the transaction and the completion of its documents.

The embassy said in an explanatory statement issued on Sunday that its national and consular responsibility obliges it to take care of providing the necessary services to Sudanese citizens, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances and suffering left by the war imposed on the country by what it described as the rebel terrorist militia and its supporters.

The embassy renewed its welcome to Sudanese citizens wishing to complete their transactions and obtain consular services, stressing its keenness to facilitate their access to them, and to provide a working environment based on respect, transparency and justice, while adhering to the procedures and controls governing the work, to ensure the flow of transactions and preserve the rights of all reviewers.

She explained that the regulatory measures taken in the framework of developing consular performance and reducing the burden on citizens contributed to simplifying procedures and speeding up the completion of transactions, pointing out that the completion of the transaction within ten minutes is related to its nature and the completion of the required documents.

Regarding the consular fees, the embassy explained that they are collected in accordance with the prescribed fees and publications issued by the Ministry of Finance and the competent authorities, stressing that it did not issue a decision to limit the payment of consular fees to the US dollar.

She added that the payment is also available in Eritrean currency, which is Naqf, in accordance with the approved controls and procedures, calling on citizens to refer to it directly to verify the prescribed fees and means of payment adopted, to avoid falling victim to incorrect or misleading information.

The Embassy affirmed its commitment to combating exploitative brokerage and mediation related to consular services, and continued to take the necessary measures to prevent the exploitation of citizens or their illusion that the completion of their transactions requires additional payments or the use of intermediaries.

She stressed that the embassy building or its consular procedures should not be used for illegal gain, or citizens’ need for services as a means of fraud, deception and illicit gain.

In this context, the Embassy stressed that consular services are obtained through official channels, and do not require the use of any intermediary, stressing the continuation of the implementation of its approach aimed at achieving zero brokerage, to ensure that citizens can conduct their transactions directly, in an environment characterized by clarity, justice and easy access to services.

The Embassy calls on citizens who have been subjected to any exploitative practices or fraud related to the consular services in Asmara during the past period to submit their complaints to the Embassy or the competent judicial authorities in the Republic of Sudan or the State of Eritrea, in accordance with their competence.

She stressed her keenness to follow up the complaints received and coordinate with the concerned authorities in Sudan and Eritrea, within the limits of the applicable legal procedures, in order to contribute to the protection of the rights of those affected and to hold violators accountable in accordance with the law.

The Embassy welcomed the citizens’ comments, complaints and suggestions about its performance, stressing that listening to them and working to address their problems is an integral part of its responsibility.

It also called on everyone to verify the accuracy of the information before circulation, and to refer to the official sources in the embassy on the procedures of transactions, fees and means of payment, in order to enhance the reliability of information and preserve the rights of citizens.

At the same time, the Embassy reserves the right to take the necessary legal action against information, allegations or abuses when there are legal grounds for doing so, while fully respecting the right of citizens to make observations, complaints and proposals through the official channels available.

The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan reiterated its commitment to fulfill its duty to the Sudanese citizens with all responsibility and honesty, and to work to develop its services, facilitate their transactions and protect their interests, based on its belief that the dignity and rights of the citizen are at the heart of its national and consular mission.
