The governor of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, inspected a number of flour mills in Bahri, including Siqah Mills for grain and Sinn for grain, to determine the reality of flour production and prices, following the escalating rise in prices and the impact on some bakeries and increased prices of bread.

During the visit, the Governor was briefed on the quantities of wheat received for the mills and the stages of operation, production and packaging, to the shipment of flour and distribution through agents, in addition to the direct distribution by Sen Al-Ghalal Company for some bakeries.

The enlightenment presented by the officials of the mill companies revealed a number of challenges facing the production process, most notably the dependence on fuel in the operation of mills, which leads to high cost and decline in production volume, as well as the impact of exchange rate fluctuations on the cost of production.

He praised the efforts of companies working to continue production despite the damage caused by the war and the loss of part of the infrastructure, and their role in contributing to bridging the gap in the flour commodity.

He said that the visit came to find out on the ground the situation and challenges facing the production of flour and distribution to agents and bakery owners, and to check prices, stressing the determination of the state government to provide the needs of citizens of bread and work to stabilize its prices.

Hamza announced the convening of an expanded meeting to discuss the problems facing the production and distribution of flour and to reach solutions that ensure the continuity of its availability to the bread industry at reasonable prices that take into account the economic conditions of citizens.

The meeting will include the Khartoum State Economic Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Khartoum Food Security Company, distribution agents and a representative of the Bakery Owners and Economic Security Union.
