The Sudanese Teachers Committee called for an urgent investigation into what it said was the ratification and start of the disbursement of five billion pounds per employee to a number of institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, under the item of "disasters", at a time when the rights of teachers and their financial entitlements, according to the Committee, still face postponement and procrastination.

The committee said in a statement on Saturday that it had followed up what it had confirmed about the inclusion of employees in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, the Audit Bureau, the Internal Audit Bureau and the Tax Bureau, including workers outside Sudan.

The committee criticized what it described as "blatant duplication" in the management of public money, noting that the Ministry of Finance deals generously with the benefits of workers within its institutions, while continuing to postpone the implementation of decisions on improving teachers' wages, allowances and benefits.

The committee asked the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Jibril Ibrahim, directly about the source of the funds that were allocated for disbursement, the legal and financial bond on which the decision was based, and the entity that allowed the granting of five billion pounds per employee, according to the statement.

She added that the use of the item "disasters" in this exchange raises questions about not using the same resources to address the situation of teachers and improve their wages, criticizing the continuation of what she described as the confinement of decisions on their entitlements in the Department of correspondence and postponement.

The committee stressed that the Ministry of Finance should not be "discounting and judging at the same time," asking the minister to provide explanations to the public about the exchange process and aspects of the use of public money.

The Committee sent a letter to teachers, calling on them not to be content with promises or to respond to repeated calls for patience with their rights, stressing that the restoration of rights requires a clear attitude that puts pressure on those responsible to fulfil their obligations.

She also called on the Sudanese people to demand disclosure of the facts and accountability of those responsible for the management of public money, stressing that state funds belong to the people and are not the private property of any ministry or institution.

The teachers committee called on the supervisory authorities to open an urgent investigation into the exchange process, and to disclose the source of funds and the bond on which the decision was based, as well as to announce the statements of beneficiaries and determine responsibilities in the event of any financial irregularities.

The Committee emphasized that those who are able to provide funds to the staff of their institutions should not invoke disability when it comes to the rights and entitlements of teachers.
