The Gezira State Police denied the validity of reports about the seizure of women in possession of large quantities of toxins, allegedly planning to poison drinking water in the state, stressing that what was circulated is unfounded.

Police said in a statement on Friday (October 30) that the records of the police stations in the eight localities are completely free of any report or incident related to the attempt to poison drinking water, and described the information circulating as fabricated and misleading.

The police headquarters warned against the circulation of anonymous news, noting that the rumors would provoke confusion and instability and spread fear and panic among citizens, and called on the media and press institutions to investigate accuracy and refer to the state police as the official source of police information.

The publication and promotion of false news exposes perpetrators to legal accountability and action.

Police confirmed the stability of the security situation in the Gezira State, noting the continued coordination between the components of the State Security Committee and the police deployment and security efforts aimed at enhancing security and reassurance.

The Police Presidency reiterated that the security of citizens is a shared responsibility, calling for the conscious handling of information and not contributing to the spread of rumors.
