The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Ahmed Mudawi Musa, discussed with the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amna Mirghani Hassan Al-Tom, ways to activate banking financing mechanisms to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of university professors’ residences and the introduction of solar energy systems.

The two sides agreed, during a joint meeting held on Saturday, with the participation of the First Deputy Governor of the Bank, Mutassim Abdullah, and the Director General of the Real Estate Bank Osman Abdul Azim, and a number of specialists, to establish a financing portfolio led by the Real Estate Bank to provide the necessary financing for the rehabilitation and maintenance of housing and the installation of solar energy systems, according to appropriate financing formulas.

The initiative aims to improve the living conditions of university professors and enhance the stability of academic staff, supporting their ability to continue their mission in the fields of education and scientific research.

The move is part of the Central Bank of Sudan’s (CBO) 2026 directive to use bank financing to support economic recovery and reconstruction, improve shelter, and expand the use of solar and clean energy sources.

The meeting stressed the importance of coordination between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Central Bank of Sudan and the Land Bank to complete the necessary technical and financing arrangements for the establishment of the portfolio, and to identify the sources of funding and mechanisms of its work and controls to benefit from them, according to the adopted banking policies.

Once completed and implemented, the initiative is expected to support efforts to improve faculty housing and expand access to clean energy solutions as part of Sudan’s recovery and reconstruction efforts.
