Advisor to the President of the Sovereign Council, Amjad Farid, stressed that the Sudanese government has the responsibility to protect its citizens and reveal the truth of the border tragedy that claimed the lives of Sudanese, stressing the need to determine responsibilities and accountability of those involved and prevent the recurrence of the incident.

Farid explained that the incident came under harsh living conditions that push citizens into civil mining in difficult and risky areas, in addition to the decline in the state’s ability to monitor its northern borders due to war and resource depletion.

He pointed to the continuation of contacts between the Sudanese and Egyptian governments at the highest levels since the incident, stressing the formation of an investigative committee that will announce the results of its work and reveal the facts to the public, taking the necessary measures.

Farid warned against the circulation of undocumented information and the escalation of popular discourse before the completion of the investigation, calling for a distinction between the legitimate demand for transparency and justice, and attempts to exploit the tragedy to provoke hostility between Sudan and Egypt.

He stressed that the Sudanese have the right to know the truth and hold those responsible accountable, stressing that the fulfillment of the victims is to achieve justice and prevent the recurrence of the tragedy, not to invest their suffering in political conflicts.

Farid concluded by stressing that “Sudanese blood is more precious than political bidding,” warning against turning the suffering of citizens into fuel for political battles that increase Sudan’s burdens.
