Diplomatic sources revealed that a four-way summit will be held on Sunday in the Egyptian city of El Alamein, with the participation of the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud.
According to the sources, the summit will discuss developments in the region, as well as a number of issues related to the security and stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, especially the Sudanese crisis and its regional repercussions, the situation in Somalia, and the security of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The summit comes in conjunction with the hosting of high-level African events during the period from 2 to 4 October, including the Alamein Africa Forum, the summit of the founding countries of the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD) and the eighth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union.
The meeting comes in the context of Egyptian coordination with Eritrea and Somalia on regional security issues, while an Egyptian-Eritrean-Somali summit was held in Asmara in October 2024, and discussed the Sudanese crisis and its regional repercussions, as well as the situation in Somalia and the security of the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, during which the leaders agreed to strengthen diplomatic coordination and strategic cooperation.
