The Central Bank of Sudan announced the start of the final withdrawal of all old editions of the category of 500 pounds (issued in 2023 and earlier) from circulation in all states, with the restriction of the process of direct replacement through bank deposit in the states of Kordofan and Darfur, based on the provisions of Article (25/3) of the Central Bank of Sudan Law of 2002, and in follow-up to the decisions on the gradual replacement of the categories of 1500 pounds issued in December 2024.

The Central Bank explained that the period of supply and replacement at its nominal value extends for three months, starting on October 1, 2026, and continues until the end of the working day of December 31, 2026, by depositing in bank accounts with commercial banks operating in the states of Kordofan and Darfur, because they are the areas that were not covered by the first and second stages of the switch process.

The bank stressed that by January 1, 2027, these banknotes will lose the status of force majeure and legal currency throughout the country, and will not be considered rewarding in the payment of obligations or commercial exchanges, calling on the public and citizens of the states concerned to quickly deposit their specific categories in their accounts before the expiration of the official deadline.
