The governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minnawi, said that the refusal to bargain over the right of Sudan to be heard before the United Nations General Assembly, in exchange for a truce he said lacked guarantees for the safety and unity of the country and the return of forcibly displaced people to their homes, contributed to raising the popularity of the head of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

In a post on his official Facebook account, Minawi said that accepting this compromise means, in his words, “consolidating the reality of others taking over their land,” for the benefit of militias that he said defied Security Council resolution 2637.
