The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has revealed the displacement of about 3,650 people from the town of Umm Badir in the municipality of Soudri in North Kordofan state, due to the deterioration of security conditions during the period from Saturday to Monday.
The organization explained that the displaced people went to the locality of Shekan in North Kordofan state and Omdurman in Khartoum state, in light of the escalation of military operations in the region.
Since last week, North Kordofan state has witnessed a military escalation, coinciding with the armed forces’ announcement of their control of areas in the state and their readiness to advance westward towards West Kordofan state, as part of a broad ground operation.
In the context, the emergency lawyer group said in an earlier statement seen by the «return» that there was a large wave of displacement of civilians from the area of Hamra al-Sheikh in the state of North Kordofan, against the backdrop of continued military operations and armed crowds around the region.
The group said that the area is witnessing a military build-up of the Rapid Support Militia, pointing to the deployment of troops and vehicles within residential areas and the center of houses, which prompted civilians to leave their areas.
Some civilians have been forced to remain in the open, while others have gone to the Um Santa area in North Kordofan and the northern state city of Dibba amid deteriorating humanitarian and security conditions, it said.
The new displacements come in light of the continued military escalation in North Kordofan, which increases the pressure on the areas receiving the displaced and increases the humanitarian needs of civilians fleeing the fighting areas.
