The Director General of the Sudan Currency Press, Eng. Mohamed Abdel Rahman Karouri, confirmed the continuation of the work in printing banknotes and secure documents despite the conditions imposed by the war, pointing to the establishment of three alternative printing sites after the destruction of the main site of the presses in Khartoum.
During his participation in the forum for the design of banknotes and documents in the Turkish city of Istanbul, Kruri said that the printing presses continued during the war to perform their tasks in designing and following up the implementation of new categories of Sudanese currency, in addition to providing the necessary documents for state institutions and government and private sectors.
During the forum, Crore reviewed the Sudanese experience in the design and printing of banknotes and documents secured during crises, and the challenges faced by the sector, stressing that Sudan has specialized national expertise and competencies accumulated for more than 30 years.
He stressed the importance of maintaining and developing these experiences, and keeping abreast of the latest technologies and global standards in the currency and insurance documents industry.
Crore stressed that the Central Bank of Sudan, through the printing presses of Sudan currency, is the only entity authorized by the state to negotiate and implement contracts for the printing of Sudanese currency and its insured securities and insurance marks.
The forum, which was held from 7 to 9 September, witnessed discussions on the latest technologies in the design of banknotes, protection elements and materials used in the manufacture of secure documents, as well as international experiences in the face of counterfeiting and forgery.
Crore pointed out that Sudan's participation allows strengthening cooperation with international institutions and experts, noting that Sudan holds the chairmanship of the African Union for currency printers and security documents, in addition to its membership in the International Union of Currency Printers and security documents.
