The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met today with the British Special Envoy for Sudan, Richard Crowder, in the presence of the Under-Secretary of State, Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid.
Crowder said in a statement after the meeting that he was happy to visit Sudan after the restoration of Khartoum, pointing to the extent of the destruction of a number of vital and service facilities as well as the displacement of thousands of civilians to neighboring countries, which contributed to the worsening of the humanitarian crisis, which he described as the worst humanitarian disaster in the world.
The British envoy pointed out that the report of the International Fact-Finding Commission painted a bleak picture of violations of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as external interference in the crisis through the recruitment of foreign mercenaries.
Crowder stressed that the priority should be to stop the war, ensure the safety of lives, and put an end to human suffering, pointing out that this can be achieved through a dialogue led and owned by the Sudanese, through an inclusive and transparent political process that reflects the vision of the Sudanese at home and abroad.
His country welcomed the initiatives put forward by genuine stakeholders, and commended the assurances given by the Government of the Sudan on the parties that could participate in the dialogue.
Crowder said that his country will participate in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in the coming days, noting that the Sudanese crisis will receive the attention of world leaders.
