Sudan and Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to rehabilitate the Khartoum refinery and establish a new refinery in the city of Port Sudan with large refining capacities, as part of enhancing Saudi cooperation and investment in the Sudanese oil sector.

The memorandum was signed by the Sudanese side by the Director General of Petroleum Establishments, Eng. Mohammed Awad Al-Jak, while the Saudi side was signed by the CEO of Tuwaiq Group, Sheikh Sultan Al-Enezi, under the mandate of the Chairman of the Group, Sheikh Tuwaiq bin Sakht Al-Otaibi.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Oil, Engineer Ali Abdulrahman, and the Director General of Khartoum Refinery, as well as a number of experts and specialists.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Oil welcomed the Saudi investments, pointing out that the partnership begins with two projects in the refining sector, while working to remove obstacles that may hinder reaching the final agreement and the start of implementation.

For his part, CEO of Taweeq Group stressed the seriousness of the group in investing in Sudan, pointing out that it has the technical and financial capabilities and expertise to implement refinery development projects, in addition to its experience and partnerships in the refining sector in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries.

The Director General of the Petroleum Establishments said that the Saudi group delegation last week held intensive technical and investment talks on refining projects in Sudan.

Tuwaiq Group operates in the fields of contracting, infrastructure, mining and industrial assets, as well as in the oil and gas sector and refineries through Ammar United.
