The National Roads and Bridges Authority has begun work on the study and evaluation of the 356-km Omdurmanpara road, in order to assess its condition and determine its urgent needs for maintenance and rehabilitation.
The First Committee began its inspections from Omdurman through Muwaileh to Rahid-Nouba, in a 130-kilometer sector, with its work later extending to Jabra al-Sheikh. The second committee started its work from al-Bayda through the city of Bara to Jabra al-Sheikh.
Tarek Ahmed Abu Amna, Director of the Authority’s Maintenance Department, said that the field inspection of the sector from Omdurman to Raheed-Nuba revealed the need for urgent maintenance to address the drifts and excavations that affected the road condition.
Abu Amna called on the concerned authorities to remove the remnants of war from the road surface and its surroundings, because of the risks they pose to the movement of vehicles and hinder maintenance work, stressing the continuation of inspections to determine the priorities of intervention in various sectors of the road.
