The General Coordination of IDP and Refugee Camps warned of the deterioration of the food security situation in Sudan, stressing that the humanitarian situation on the ground has passed the stage of warnings, and has become a daily tragedy for millions of citizens and displaced people.
In a press release on September 6, 2026, the coordination said that local production fell sharply, coinciding with the rise in the prices of grain and basic commodities to unprecedented levels, pointing out that the price of millet (1 D) amounted to 20,000-30,000 Sudanese pounds, while the price of meat (1 kg) ranged between 20,000-30,000 Sudanese pounds, and the price of oil (1 bottle) 9000 Sudanese pounds.
She added that the price of sugar (1 mobile) reached 300,000 Sudanese pounds in cash, 470,000 Sudanese pounds through your bank, while the price of soap (1 piece) 2500 Sudanese pounds, and the price of salt (1 pound) 3000 Sudanese pounds.
She pointed out that citizens face additional burdens with the arrival of the discount rate in your bank to 30%, in addition to what she described as the collapse of the Sudanese pound against the dollar, pointing out that the exchange rate reached 7.3 pounds to the dollar.
The ongoing war has led to large-scale displacement, loss of income sources, and the collapse of markets and infrastructure, while the planting season is threatened, as the risk of famine increases.
The difficulty of delivering humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected areas has left Sudanese society suffering from hunger, fear and disease, in the absence of an effective response from humanitarian organizations and the international community.
She called on the parties to the conflict to stop militancy and audit their accounts in the face of the suffering of the Sudanese, stressing that drought and famine leave no room for rigid positions or individual interests, and that the priority should be to save citizens and put their lives above all else.
It also called on humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately to provide food, medicine, water and shelter, and called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards civilians.
The spokesman for the General Coordinator for Displaced Persons and Refugees, Adam Men, stressed that the continued silence and failure to respond to the humanitarian situation in Sudan would turn the crisis into a comprehensive humanitarian disaster, warning of its effects on the lives of millions.
