South Kordofan – OnePress

Hundreds of residents of the popular village of Kjour, located near Kauda in South Kordofan state, organized a mass march on Saturday to demand a cessation of fighting and the primacy of the voice of peace and dialogue, amid accusations by a civil official of the SPLM-N of violating the truce.

The march was attended by representatives of the Women’s Union, Youth and Veterans Union, as well as a number of leaders of the civil administration, where participants called on the components of the province of Heban to support initiatives to end the conflict, and work to consolidate peace and promote dialogue between the parties.

The participants stressed that the stalled peace initiatives would deepen the division among the Nuba people, stressing the need to give priority to the language of dialogue and de-escalation, which opens the way to address the roots of the conflict through peaceful means.

The roots of tension in the region date back to 2020, against the backdrop of disputes related to the demarcation of the borders between the tribes, before later developing into armed confrontations between the SPLM-N led by Abdul Aziz al-Hilu and the tribe of Atorua, following the bias of soldiers and officers of the movement alongside the tribe.
