Port Sudan – OnePress

The Sudanese Authority for Standardization and Metrology in the Red Sea State intensified its monitoring and awareness campaigns at the Prophet's Birthday Square in Port Sudan, in order to enhance consumer safety and ensure compliance with the requirements governing the sale and display of birth candy.

The Authority's sector carried out an extensive field tour that included about 25 locations for the sale and preservation of birth candy, with the participation of industrial and service inspection teams and the media unit, under the supervision and follow-up of the Director of the sector, Engineer Al-Walid Mohammed Othman.

The campaign focused on verifying the accuracy of the scales and measurement tools used in sales operations, as well as educating traders and consumers on the importance of adhering to the use of kilograms and their derivatives as a certified unit of measurement, instead of pounds, to ensure fair transactions and preserve the rights of consumers.

Inspections also included reviewing product-specific technical and health requirements, including conformance of manufacturing inputs, safety of dyes and flavorings used, and validation of expiration dates, to reduce health risks from non-conforming products.

The campaign resulted in the seizure of a number of irregularities relating to non-conforming scales and measuring instruments. The inspection teams took the necessary measures, including the confiscation of the offending weighing instruments, pending the regularization of conditions and the completion of legal procedures.

The sector confirmed the continuation of inspection campaigns and tours of generator yards and markets, as part of the Authority's efforts to protect consumers and ensure the safety of products and fair commercial transactions.
