Nearly 11,000 people displaced by clashes on Sudan-Chad border

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced the displacement of 5,135 people from areas in West Darfur state, in addition to another wave of displacement estimated at 6,650 people from villages surrounding the area of Bir Saliba and the locality of Sirba, in the context of violent clashes in the border areas between Sudan and Chad.

The displacements are the result of deteriorating security conditions and escalating violence in border areas, prompting thousands of civilians to leave their areas in search of safer places.

These developments come against the backdrop of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in large areas of Darfur, where displaced people face increasing challenges in providing food, water, shelter and health services.
