Al Jazeera Observatory for Human Rights warned of the escalation of dengue fever in the Blue Nile region, in light of the increase in injuries and deaths, pointing out that more than 332 cases have been recorded amid deteriorating health conditions and the weak ability of medical institutions to respond to the growing needs.

The Observatory pointed out that hospitals and health centers receive increasing numbers of patients daily, at a time when they suffer from a lack of medicines, intravenous solutions and medical supplies, which increases the suffering of patients and increases the pressure on health cadres.

The Observatory called for the declaration of the Blue Nile region as an endemic area, allowing the mobilization of resources and capabilities to respond to the outbreak, and accelerate the health and humanitarian response to curb its spread.

Specialists warned that the continuation of the rainy season and the associated breeding of mosquitoes carrying the disease may lead to a rise in the number of infections in the coming days, unless urgent interventions are implemented, including combating the vector of diseases, strengthening awareness campaigns, providing medicines and medical supplies, and supporting health facilities.

Al Jazeera Human Rights Monitor renewed its call to health authorities, competent authorities and humanitarian partners to act urgently to contain the outbreak of dengue fever and ensure that civilians have access to the necessary health care to avoid the situation turning into a large-scale health disaster.
