Nouakchott – OnePress

Mauritanian authorities have begun implementing new measures to regulate the private mining sector, including granting Sudanese miners a 60-day deadline to evacuate mining sites, especially in the Shami and Zuweirat regions.

The authorities explained that the decision does not include companies and investors with official licenses, stressing that the measures are part of a plan to regulate the sector, tighten control over its activities, and strengthen security and administrative controls.

For his part, the Sudanese ambassador in Nouakchott said that this step is related to security considerations, pointing out that it came against the backdrop of border violations monitored by the Mauritanian authorities in the areas bordering Algeria.
