Pharmaceutical authorities in the eastern Sudanese state of Gedaref announced the implementation of an extensive inspection and control campaign that resulted in the seizure of quantities of expired and unregistered medicines, in addition to the detection of regulatory and technical violations within a number of pharmaceutical facilities.

The National Council for Drugs and Toxins said in a statement on Wednesday that the campaign was carried out in cooperation with the competent authorities and targeted the two localities of eastern dumps and Qarisha, including the cities of Douka, Qarisha and the areas of the Red Sheep and God bless God, as part of efforts to strengthen control of the drug market and protect public health.

According to the statement, the campaign revealed violations related to non-compliance with the official price of medicines, as well as technical violations that included the absence of qualified pharmacists during working hours and the failure of some pharmacies to meet the required regulatory requirements, which led to the closure of a number of facilities and legal action against violators under the applicable pharmaceutical legislation.

In a related context, joint technical teams from the Council and the National Fund for Medical Supplies conducted field visits to hospitals in the region to assess the stocks of medicines, where the results of the evaluation confirmed the availability of basic therapeutic supplies, including life-saving medicines and free treatment programs, to ensure the continuation of the provision of health services to the population.
