The Central Bank of Sudan (CBS) has announced the official accreditation of EBS as a certified service bureau for SWIFT’s global network of financial messages and bank transfers, in a move described as a strategic shift towards reconnecting the Sudanese banking sector with the international financial system.
EBS has successfully passed the rigorous technical and management assessments of the SWIFT Shared Infrastructure Programme, becoming the first SWIFT certified service office in Sudan and one of only five companies in the Middle East and Africa region to receive this advanced level of accreditation.
He pointed out that this achievement reflects the development of technical infrastructure, governance and cybersecurity systems, and commitment to global operational standards, stressing that the step will enhance the efficiency of banking services, support digital transformation, and raise the level of confidence in the Sudanese financial sector.
This development comes after the Central Bank of Sudan acquired a strategic stake in the electronic banking company in early January 2026, as part of efforts to modernize the national banking structure and improve the stability of financial services. The new service will also provide direct support to Sudanese banks connected to the EBS network, facilitating international transfers and strengthening external banking relationships.
The adoption of SWIFT’s first service office in Sudan is seen as an indication of the restoration of part of the country’s financial presence and a positive message about the ability of the Sudanese banking sector to operate in accordance with international standards despite the challenges imposed by the war and economic conditions in recent years.
