The European Union affirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan, declaring its rejection of any entities or structures parallel to the official state institutions, during a meeting between the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, with a delegation of ambassadors of the European Union countries.
The meeting discussed the developments of the current war and its repercussions on the humanitarian and security situation in the country, as well as regional and international efforts to support stability and restore security.
Al-Burhan called on the international community to redouble its efforts to stop the external supply lines that contribute to the continuation of the conflict, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty of Sudan and the right of its people to reach national solutions to its political crises away from any external interference or dictates.
The European Union Ambassador, Wolfrum Vetter, said in a press statement after the meeting that the delegation's visit comes within the framework of communication with the Sudanese leaders and the developments on the ground, stressing the commitment of the European Union to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan in coordination with United Nations agencies and diplomatic missions working in the country.
Vitter reiterated the EU’s position calling for preventing illegal arms flows and prohibiting the recruitment of foreign fighters, warning of the dangers of establishing institutions or structures parallel to the Sudanese state in the current circumstances, as it may pose a threat to the unity and stability of the country.
In the same context, the Sudanese government welcomed the European positions supporting the unity of Sudan and its legitimate institutions. Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohiuddin Salem said Khartoum looked forward to these positions being translated into practical steps that would contribute to reducing support for the rebel militia and supporting efforts to restore security and stability.
These diplomatic moves come at a time when the Sudanese government seeks to strengthen cooperation with international and regional partners and mobilize support for the reconstruction and recovery phase, in order to serve the interests of the Sudanese people and maintain the unity of the state and its institutions.
