The Governor of the Darfur region, Minni Arko Minnawi, issued a sharp criticism of the international community, describing the suffering of civilians in the region as “the most serious humanitarian tragedies in the recent history of Sudan”, following the bloody attack launched by the Rapid Support Militia today on the Orchi area in the locality of Ambro.
Minnawi said in a Facebook post that the region's genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced displacement are taking place amid "unjustified international silence" and inability to take decisive steps to stop the violations and hold the perpetrators and their supporters politically and militarily accountable.
The governor’s statement included a strong condemnation of the violations in the Orchi area this morning, which resulted in the burning of a number of villages, looting of citizens’ property, and setting fire to the entire market of the area, stressing that these crimes are repeated daily against innocent civilians.
Minnawi concluded his statements by renewing his call for international and human rights organizations to take urgent and immediate action to protect civilians in Darfur, and to stop the ongoing series of crimes against the Sudanese people in the region.
