Archaeological scientific excavation work was started at the Al Saraya Historical Museum in Dongola city, under the joint supervision of the Supreme Council of Tourism in the northern state and the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums, as part of a plan to rehabilitate the site and highlight its historical value.
The technical team proceeded to divide parts of the site into geometric squares in accordance with the adopted archaeological method, in preparation for the detection of artifacts and show the internal features of the building.
The supervising authorities confirmed that the works come within the framework of an integrated project to restore the museum and turn it into a prominent tourist landmark, with excavations and maintenance work continuing in parallel until the completion of the technical objectives.
