The pharmaceutical authorities in the state of Gedaref in eastern Sudan announced the seizure of irregularities related to the circulation of unregistered drugs, and the closure of a number of drug stores that do not meet the legal requirements, during a joint control campaign that included border areas in the state.
The National Council for Drugs and Toxins in the state of Qadarif said in a statement that the campaign was carried out in coordination with the National Fund for Medical Supplies, and targeted the eastern dumps and Basanda as part of efforts to strengthen control of the circulation of medicines and ensure their safety.
The campaign included a number of villages and areas, including Rashid, Tamra, Jazuli, Umm Kharait and Alam, in addition to the city of Basanda and the border crossing, where the outlets and stores of medicines were inspected and to ensure compliance with the regulations governing the pharmaceutical work.
The campaign resulted in the seizure of unregistered medicines and legal action against violators, as well as the closure of some stores that were found not to meet the approved licensing conditions.
The National Council for Drugs and Toxins confirmed the continuation of inspection campaigns and field follow-up in various localities in the state, stressing the importance of tightening control over the drug supply chain, especially in border areas, to reduce the circulation of illegal drugs and ensure the provision of safe and effective medicines to citizens.
