North Darfur – OnePress
A large-scale fire broke out in the market of the Murtal district of Tawila, North Darfur state, destroying large parts of the region’s main commercial hub and causing significant material losses, according to local sources.
Witnesses said dozens of shops and commercial facilities were on fire, including shops selling food, vegetables, clothing and consumer goods, as well as power plants.
Strong winds contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, making it difficult to contain and limit its spread to other locations, the sources said.
The Martal market is one of the main commercial centers on which residents and displaced people depend for their basic needs, raising fears of additional humanitarian and economic repercussions in the region, which is already suffering from the effects of the ongoing conflict.
