The Embassy of Sudan in the Libyan capital Tripoli confirmed that Sudanese citizens in Libya, including those registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), do not wish to resettle within Libyan territory, stressing that their main option is voluntary return to Sudan.
In a statement, the embassy expressed its appreciation to the Libyan government and people for hosting the Sudanese who left their country due to the repercussions of the war, praising the cooperation of the Libyan authorities in facilitating voluntary return programs.
She pointed to the success of the first phase of the voluntary return program before the Eid holiday, announcing readiness to start the second phase during the coming period in coordination with the competent authorities in the two countries.
The embassy also reiterated Sudan’s readiness to receive its citizens who return voluntarily, including those subject to deportation orders from the Libyan authorities, stressing that the return program is under the supervision of a higher committee of the Sudanese Council of Ministers.
The statement added that the program has so far contributed to the return of large numbers of displaced Sudanese and refugees, while the embassy continues to provide services to the Sudanese community and strengthen coordination with its representatives and local Libyan authorities.
