Health authorities in the state of Jazira in central Sudan have injured 23 people, including 11 children, following an attack by stray dogs in the area of Awadiyah in the locality of Umm al-Qura.

The state health ministry said all the injured were taken to Umm al-Qura hospital for treatment, while four cases were transferred to the city of Wad al-Madani for advanced medical care.

The ministry added that it has paid 200 doses of anti-rabies serum to the local as part of the urgent response and prevention of complications of the disease, stressing the follow-up of the health conditions of those infected.

In conjunction with the health interventions, the residents of the region and the competent authorities carried out a campaign against stray dogs, which resulted in the elimination of four of them, as part of efforts to reduce health risks and protect the population.
