The governor of Darfur said that the Rapid Support Forces and the “Establishment” coalition represent “two sides of the same coin,” considering that they share political, moral and legal responsibility for violations related to the conflict in Sudan.
In a lengthy article, Minawi added that the rapid support has been linked since its inception to documented crimes including murder, displacement and intimidation, pointing to the issuance of international decisions and legal procedures against a number of its leaders.
He also accused the coalition of not being able to disavow the legacy of its military components, pointing to accusations related to the siege and serious violations against civilians in areas in the Darfur region, including El Fasher and Zam Zam camp.
Minawi’s comments come amid continued political debate over the future of the political process and the repercussions of the ongoing war in Sudan.
