Sudanese authorities announced the completion of arrangements for the implementation of a voluntary return program aimed at evacuating 10,000 Sudanese refugees from Egypt to Sudan, as part of a partnership between the Federal Zakat Bureau and the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return.
The announcement came after a meeting held in Cairo between the Executive Office of the Hope Commission and a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Zakat Bureau, which discussed the implementation mechanisms of the program and arrangements for the transfer of returnees from a number of Egyptian governorates to Sudan.
Representatives of the Zakat Bureau said that the initiative targets thousands of Sudanese wishing to return in its early stages, focusing on the categories eligible for support in accordance with the applicable controls, stressing their commitment to contribute to providing the needs of returnees and follow-up their conditions after arrival.
For its part, the Committee of Hope praised the cooperation with the Zakat Bureau, considering that the partnership represents an important step to support the voluntary return of Sudanese in Egypt, calling on economic institutions and businessmen to contribute to the funding of return and stabilization programs.
The joint chamber announced the completion of preparations for the first flights, amid arrangements aimed at ensuring a safe and orderly return of those wishing to return to Sudan.
The meeting also witnessed the participation of representatives of the people of the Abyei Area, who confirmed the benefit of hundreds of families from voluntary return programs, with additional numbers expressing their desire to return during the coming period.
