The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate is concerned about the security and humanitarian situation faced by a number of Sudanese journalists living in Libya, noting that it has received reports of harassment and threats against some of them and members of their families, which prompted them to leave their places of residence.
The union said in a statement issued on Thursday that a number of Sudanese journalists are facing difficult conditions, calling for the necessary protection and safety.
The union called on regional and international organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights to intervene and follow up the situation of Sudanese journalists in Libya, and work to provide legal and humanitarian support to those in need.
It also called on the Libyan authorities to take measures to protect Sudanese journalists living in their territory and to prevent any violations or practices that might endanger their safety.
The union warned of the repercussions of the continuation of these conditions, stressing the importance of respecting the rights of journalists and ensuring a safe environment that enables them to live and work away from threats and harassment.
