The Commission for Safety, Social Solidarity and Poverty Reduction in Sudan discussed with the Zakat Bureau ways to enhance joint cooperation to expand the social protection umbrella and support economic empowerment programs for low-income families.
This came during a meeting between UNHCR Secretary General Mohamed Ali Salem and the Secretary General of the Zakat Bureau, Yahya Ahmed Abdullah Al-Kamarawi, where the two sides discussed a number of joint projects, including support for productive projects, the expansion of the school feeding program, and the development of the unified social registry project.
Officials said the Unified Social Registry aims to create a national database of eligible families, helping to guide social assistance and services more efficiently and transparently.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the school meal program, which currently covers a number of states, in addition to discussing mechanisms to increase funding for productive projects aimed at poor families to enhance opportunities for economic empowerment and improve livelihoods.
The two sides agreed to strengthen institutional coordination and develop monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to support the implementation of social and development programs and enhance efforts to combat poverty in the country.
