The Sudanese Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ahmed Mudawi Musa, issued a decision to end the work of higher education institutions in alternative centers outside their original headquarters, and oblige them to return to their approved sites no later than August 2026.

The decision stated that any institution that does not complete the return arrangements within the specified period will not receive new students in the admissions cycle for the academic year 2026-2027, in a move aimed at restoring academic activity to the headquarters of the original universities and colleges.

The ministry said that the decision is based on the provisions of the Higher Education and Scientific Research Law of 2021, in addition to government directives to resume the work of higher education institutions from their headquarters.

The resolution also committed universities and institutions currently operating from alternative sites to take the necessary administrative and technical measures to complete the return, while assigning the competent departments to follow up the implementation of the resolution.

This trend is part of the authorities’ efforts to re-normalize educational institutions and resume full academic activities after the effects of the conflict in a number of Sudanese states.
