Russia has announced the expansion of the E-Visa system, allowing citizens of 55 countries to apply for entry into the country online without the need for complicated traditional procedures.

Under the new system, applicants can submit their applications electronically through the official dedicated platform, without requiring a tourist invitation or complex travel arrangements, provided that the visa is sent to the e-mail shortly after completing the required procedures.

The e-visa gives the holder the right to visit various Russian cities for tourism, business or short visits, with a specific stay period of up to 16 days, in a move aimed at stimulating tourism traffic and facilitating the entry of visitors during the summer season.

The move comes as part of the Russian government’s efforts to streamline travel procedures and promote openness to international tourism markets, through increasing reliance on digital services and reducing traditional paper transactions.
