Sudanese Justice Minister Abdullah Deraf condemned what he described as serious violations and crimes committed against civilians in a number of areas of North Kordofan state, blaming the Rapid Support Forces for the attacks in villages and areas north of the city of Bara, in addition to targeting buildings belonging to the legal department in the city of al-Obeid.
The minister said in a statement on Tuesday that the attacks included the areas of Murrah, Umm Karin, Hilla Hamed and the village of Shaq al-Nam, noting that they caused losses among civilians and damage to property and civilian infrastructure.
He added that the Sudanese authorities view these acts as serious violations of international humanitarian law, stressing the continuation of legal efforts to prosecute those involved before national courts and regional and international judicial mechanisms.
The Minister of Justice called on the international community and human rights organizations to intensify their efforts to stop violations and protect civilians, reiterating the government’s commitment to hold accountable those responsible for crimes committed in conflict zones.
In recent weeks, North Kordofan has been witnessing an escalation in military operations and confrontations, amid warnings of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in a number of conflict-affected areas.
