Since Saturday, the regions of Kabim and Rowena in South Darfur state have witnessed renewed tribal confrontations between the Bani Hilba and Salamat tribes, amid a noticeable escalation in the violence and the spread of clashes, according to local sources.

Field sources said that the area is witnessing large armed crowds from both sides, with initial reports of deaths and injuries, in a possible outcome of the rise, in light of the continued confrontations and the use of weapons and military vehicles.

The sources said that the clashes caused damage to a number of local facilities, while the intensity of the fighting and the use of heavy weapons and indiscriminate shells prompted hundreds of families to flee their homes to safer areas, which exacerbated the humanitarian situation in the region.

In the same context, civil leaders and local activists launched urgent appeals calling for an immediate halt to the clashes, and to contain the escalation through civil tracks and community mediations, warning of the widening circle of violence in the event of continued confrontations.
