Port Sudan – OnePress

Sudanese health authorities have raised the alert level at air, sea and land ports as part of precautionary measures aimed at preventing the entry of the Ebola virus into the country, amid regional fears of the spread of the disease and the registration of infections in some neighboring countries.

The Ebola Emergency Room of the National Quarantine Administration, during its seventh periodic meeting in Port Sudan, chaired by the Director of the National Quarantine Fatih Rabie Abdullah, discussed the level of health readiness at the various entry points and the measures needed to enhance early monitoring and response capabilities.

Officials from the quarantine sectors of the states participated in the meeting, along with the directors of the entry points at Port Sudan and Khartoum airports and sea and land crossings, where they reviewed the field reports of the border crossings and followed up the traffic coming from the affected areas.

The participants stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between quarantine departments, airports and air carriers to ensure that passenger data are updated and health procedures adopted for the early detection of any suspected cases.

The meeting also discussed health awareness plans at the border crossings, and directed the expansion of education programs for travelers and workers at the entry points, in addition to supporting the operational structure for health surveillance and examination.

The health authorities stressed that the current measures come within the framework of a preventive strategy aimed at protecting the country from cross-border epidemic risks, while continuing to monitor daily regional and international health developments and take the necessary measures according to developments.
