The head of Sudan’s sovereign council and army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said that the armed forces are continuing their military operations against the Rapid Support Forces, stressing that the latter “will not have a presence in the future of Sudan” after the end of the war.
Al-Burhan said during a meeting with senior army commanders that what he described as the Sudanese people’s rapprochement around the armed forces was a key factor in the military progress achieved during the past period, stressing the continuation of operations to restore areas that remain outside the control of the state.
He pointed out that the post-war period will witness the rebuilding of the military on new foundations, through the development of combat capabilities and military equipment and the strengthening of the institutional structure of the army.
On the political issue, Al-Burhan denied reports of ongoing consultations or negotiations in Bahrain, saying that the news was “incorrect.”
The head of the sovereign council also stressed that the doors of the state will remain open to those who choose to give up arms and engage in a peaceful national path, pointing out that the leadership welcomes political forces that have adopted positions in support of the state and have not engaged in hostile acts against its institutions.
Al-Burhan’s comments come at a time of ongoing clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which have entered their fourth year since the conflict began in April 2023.
