Sudan called on the international community and partners to support the industrial recovery program that the government is developing in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as part of reconstruction efforts and to promote food security and sustainable development.

During a high-level event organized by the missions of Sudan and the European Union in Vienna, Ambassador Magdy Ahmed Mofadel said that his country appreciates the continuation of the work of the United Nations despite the war conditions, stressing the importance of expanding areas of joint cooperation to support the productive and industrial sectors.

Speaking to the Friends of Food Security, he urged donors and international organizations to step up their efforts to address the challenges associated with conflict, climate change and funding shortfalls, noting that African countries bear the brunt of the fallout from these crises.

He also called for more support for ongoing development projects in Sudan, which are funded by European, Asian and Canadian partners, stressing the importance of expanding the scope of these programs during the next phase.

The Sudanese official reviewed a number of projects being implemented in the states of Kassala, the Red Sea, Gedaref and the Nile River, calling for their dissemination to the rest of the country to support production and improve livelihoods.

The Friends of Food Security Group was established in Vienna on a Sudanese initiative in October 2024, with the aim of coordinating the efforts of UN organizations and promoting sustainable development paths and food security.
