The New York Times quoted three Iranian officials as saying that Tehran has agreed to a memorandum of understanding that includes halting military operations and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation, as part of arrangements aimed at calming tensions in the region.

The understandings include ending the fighting on various fronts, ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and no tolls on vessel crossings, as well as lifting U.S. naval restrictions linked to the waterway.

The sources pointed out that the proposed agreement postpones the discussion of the Iranian nuclear file to a later stage, in exchange for preliminary economic understandings, including the release of about $25 billion of Iranian assets frozen abroad.

The leaks also showed that mediators from Qatar and Pakistan were involved in facilitating the preparation of the draft understanding between the parties concerned.

There have so far been no official statements from Iran or the United States to confirm or deny the story.
