Demazine – OnePress
The Sudanese Armed Forces announced on Saturday the shooting down of a hostile drone in the vicinity of the city of Damazin in Blue Nile state, after it was spotted while it penetrated Sudanese airspace coming from the eastern direction of the country.
In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the armed forces said air defense systems and ground-based anti-aircraft systems were able to accurately detect the drone after it crossed the border from Ethiopia, before it was successfully dealt with and destroyed.
The statement did not specify who the drone belonged to or the nature of the mission it was carrying out, while the incident comes amid heightened security tensions and drone attacks in a number of Sudanese states during the recent period.
Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile state, is a strategic area close to the Ethiopian border and is witnessing tight security in light of the military developments in the country.
