Health authorities in the northern Sudanese state of the Nile have reported 35 new cases of dengue fever in the past 24 hours, without additional deaths, as the state continues to face an escalating outbreak of the disease for months.
According to the epidemiological report issued by the General Directorate of Preventive Medicine at the State Ministry of Health, the cumulative number of cases has increased to 8287 since the beginning of the outbreak, while the death toll has stabilized at 14 cases.
The new cases were distributed to several localities, where the locality recorded the highest rate of 12 cases, followed by Shendi with 11 cases, then Al-Damer with 7 cases, and Atbara with 5 cases, amid the spread of cases in a number of villages and residential areas.
Emergency and epidemiological teams are continuing field monitoring and rapid intervention to contain the outbreak, health authorities said, amid fears of a wider spread of the disease with increasing health and environmental challenges.
Sudan has been under increasing pressure on the health sector in recent months due to deteriorating humanitarian conditions and a decline in basic services in a number of states.
