The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that the humanitarian crisis in Sudan continues to worsen in 2026, noting that some 33.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.

Humanitarian partners are seeking $2.9 billion in funding to provide life-saving assistance to 20.4 million people across the country.

Despite significant operational challenges, including insecurity, difficult access and lack of funding, humanitarian organizations had reached 9 million people by April 2026, while only about 610,000 people had received multisectoral assistance, reflecting the scale of unmet needs.

The humanitarian response has focused on the most affected areas, with 1.3 million of the 1.5 million people living in seven localities classified as being in dire humanitarian need, and 5.2 million people in areas with the highest humanitarian needs.
