Health authorities in Khartoum state have announced a package of heightened precautions to counter the risk of Ebola transmission, following the registration of cases in Uganda and the increasing movement of returnees and displaced people to Sudan.

The State Department of Health's General Directorate of Emergency and Epidemiology said it had convened an emergency meeting with federal officials and representatives of international organizations, including the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund, to discuss preparedness and response plans for a possible outbreak.

According to the Ministry of Health, the measures include upgrading the readiness of isolation centers, training medical staff on protocols for dealing with potential injuries, as well as strengthening epidemiological surveillance systems and monitoring arrivals through Khartoum and Port Sudan airports, especially those from Uganda.

The meeting also discussed intensifying community awareness campaigns, strengthening infection control measures within health institutions, and expanding coordination with international partners to ensure rapid response in the event of any suspected cases.

The health authorities stressed that the current steps are part of preventive measures aimed at preventing the transmission of the disease to Sudan and reducing the risk of cross-border epidemics, in light of regional fears of the spread of the virus.
