On the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Sudan and Qatar discussed ways to strengthen health cooperation and resume stalled development and construction projects in Sudan as part of post-war reconstruction and recovery efforts.

The Sudanese Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, said during a meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Dr. Mansour bin Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud, that the current conditions have become conducive to the resumption of health projects that have been disrupted by the conflict, pointing out that the health sector has suffered extensive damage to about 500 hospitals and health facilities.

He added that the Sudanese authorities have been able to restart more than 80% of the affected health institutions, stressing that Khartoum looks forward to greater Qatari support in the areas of rehabilitation and reconstruction, in addition to contributing to mobilizing international development partners to support reconstruction efforts.

The Sudanese minister praised the humanitarian support provided by Doha during the crisis, especially through Qatari charities, saying that cooperation between the two countries is an important pillar to support the Sudanese health sector.

For his part, the Qatari Minister of Health affirmed his country's readiness to continue supporting Sudan, especially in the areas of rehabilitation of health institutions and development projects related to medical services.

The two sides agreed to continue joint coordination to enhance health and humanitarian cooperation and support the path of recovery and reconstruction in Sudan.
