Eyewitnesses said that drones, likely affiliated with the Sudanese army, carried out a series of air strikes on Saturday targeting sites and gatherings of the Rapid Support Forces in the city of Mellit, north of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.
Local sources said blasts were heard across the area after the aerial bombardment, causing smoke plumes to rise from the targeted sites amid panic among citizens, while precise official statistics on the extent of casualties or material damage from the attack have not yet been received.
These field developments come in light of the increasing reliance on drones in various axes, especially in the vicinity of the strategic city of Mellit, which represents a major transportation node for supply lines and movement in the north of the state and the neighboring borders.
