The civilian authorities of the Sudan Liberation Movement warned of the worsening of the spread of monkeypox in the Jebel Marra area in Darfur region, stressing that the health situation is threatened to get out of control in light of the increase in infections and the weakness of the available medical resources.

The authorities said in a statement issued by the Deira Circle and published on their official platforms that the disease continues to spread at an accelerated pace, requiring urgent intervention from international humanitarian organizations to carry out large-scale immunization campaigns and provide life-saving medicines and medical supplies.

The statement warned that any delay in the response could lead to a health disaster that threatens the lives of thousands of people, especially children, calling on the international community and health organizations to act immediately “before it is too late”.

These warnings come at a time when large areas of the Darfur region are witnessing a severe deterioration in health and humanitarian services as a result of the armed conflict, which has exacerbated the suffering of areas under the control of the movement, especially in Jebel Marra and the city of Tawila, amid a severe lack of basic health care and increasing medical isolation.
