Wadi Halfa – OnePress

On Thursday, voluntary returns of Sudanese from the Arab Republic of Egypt through the Ashkit border crossing in Wadi Halfa resumed, after a stopover during which flights continued through the Arqin crossing only.

The crossing received 1,400 Sudanese nationals arriving on 25 buses on their way to Khartoum and Nile states, as part of an optional return program being implemented under the supervision of the Sudanese General Intelligence Service.

The director of Ashkit crossing, Engineer Taj Al-Sir Mohammed Al-Haj Ali, said that the competent authorities completed customs inspection, immigration and passports procedures for returnees in accordance with the “door to door” system, and with high efficiency and in a short time.

He explained that the conduct of these trips was coordinated jointly between the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo and the Consulate General in Aswan and the Egyptian authorities and their Sudanese counterparts, pointing out that the trips of the “Initiatives Committee” will be received through the Ashkit crossing, while the trips of the “Hope Committee” will continue through the Arqin crossing.

He stressed the readiness of the crossing to receive more regiments as part of a plan aimed at facilitating the return of citizens and enhancing community stability, praising the cooperation between the competent authorities and the transport room, in addition to the role of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society and the emergency organization of the alliance in providing humanitarian services to returnees upon arrival.
